An elderly angler has died after falling into the water near a Hong Kong village in Tsuen Wan while fishing on rocky shore.

Police said on Saturday that the man, who was around 61 years old, fell into the water at about 11.49am near Ka Loon Tsuen in Tsuen Wan.

The man lost consciousness as he drifted about 30 to 40 metres (131 feet) offshore.

Firefighters later located the man about 10 to 20 metres offshore and rescued him.

The man was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in the New Territories, where he was declared dead.

In August last year, police investigated the case of a fisherman who died after getting into a quarrel with another angler over a fishing spot in North Point.
