Hong Kong fencer Vivian Kong ‘suspends Jockey Club duties to run for Legco’
Source says the 31-year-old Olympic gold medallist made the move on Saturday

Olympic gold medallist Vivian Kong Man-wai has suspended her duties at the Hong Kong Jockey Club as she is expected to run for the coming Legislative Council election, the Post has learned.
As of Saturday, 148 people had submitted their nomination forms for the December 7 race. The two-week nomination period ends on November 6.
A source said that fencing star Kong, 31, who worked as the club’s assistant external affairs manager after retiring from her sports career last year, suspended her duties on Saturday.
In response to Post queries, the club said that it supported the Legco election and encouraged staff to vote on polling day.
“Employees may exercise their civic right to stand for election to the Legislative Council, but the club will not participate in their election campaigns by any means,” it said.
The club said it would not comment on an individual employee’s candidacy.
