City leader John Lee Ka-chiu and renowned Hong Kong-American stand-up comedian Jimmy O. Yang met to discuss their time at Wah Yan College and the future of local show business, it has been revealed.
Lee graduated from Wah Yan College, Kowloon, while O. Yang attended Wah Yan College, Hong Kong.
Joining the duo at the gathering was Commissioner for Belt and Road Nicholas Ho Lik-chi, who was O. Yang’s classmate.
The recent meetup was revealed in a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo by O. Yang’s management company CAA on Saturday.
The three men shared “campus memories and interesting stories”, according to the post.
Accompanying photos showed the three toasting with commemorative water cups from the “Wah Yan One Family” alumni organisation.
It did not mention when or where the gathering took place or how long it lasted.

The 38-year-old star performed five sold-out shows at the Hong Kong Coliseum, his first show in Asia, last month.
O. Yang was born in Hong Kong and emigrated to the United States as a teen, before shooting to fame in Hollywood in recent years. He speaks fluent Cantonese and English.
During the gathering, Lee also praised O. Yang’s performances for attracting audiences from all over the world and showing the cultural inclusiveness and vitality of Hong Kong.
Lee also explained the city government’s ambition to attract world-famous stars to perform in the city.
“[Lee] also mentioned that with the construction of new performance venues and the upgrading of existing facilities by the Hong Kong government in recent years, coupled with the improvement of the booking policy and mechanism for performance venues, it is believed more well-known artists like Jimmy can be attracted to perform in Hong Kong, promoting high-quality performing arts activities and gathering global audiences,” the Weibo post read.
During his visit last month, the comedian also partnered with the Tourism Board to “tell good stories of Hong Kong”.
In a clip the board released on social media, the comedian is seen trying char siu – or Chinese barbecued pork – visiting the Man Mo Temple in Sheung Wan and riding the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to see the Big Buddha on Lantau Island.
After his visit to Hong Kong, O. Yang performed in Macau and is now in Europe.
