Abby Choi Tin-fung’s ex-husband, his brother and father will stand trial for her alleged killing in September, three years after the death of the Hong Kong model.
In a closed-door hearing on Tuesday, Alex Kwong Kong-chi, his elder brother Anthony Kwong Kong-kit and their father Kwong Kau appeared before Deputy High Court Judge Brian Keith for the first time.
The pre-trial hearing was held for the judge to give directions to the parties.
According to the judiciary’s website, the trio did not have legal representation at Tuesday’s hearing. They will return to court for a second pre-trial hearing on February 27.
The trial is set to begin on September 21 and is expected to last 45 days at the High Court.
Choi’s death shocked the city in February 2023, when parts of her body were found in a flat inside a three-storey village house in Lung Mei Tsuen, Tai Po.
The defendants have been remanded in custody since their arrests that same month.
The high-profile murder case then entered a lengthy legal process, with multiple adjournments over the years before being transferred to the High Court for trial.
The defendants were previously represented by lawyer Eric So Chi-kit during earlier hearings.
In a separate case in June 2024, Alex Kwong was sentenced to 3½ years in jail for stealing HK$6.3 million (US$806,860) worth of gold and jewellery and fleeing before his theft trial began in 2015.
His mother, Jenny Li Sui-heung, was jailed in October 2025 for 1½ years for obstructing a police investigation into Alex Kwong following the model’s murder. She was found to have prevented police from locating her son and persuaded Choi’s mother to stay silent about his whereabouts.
