Hong Kong court convicts Abby Choi’s former mother-in-law for obstructing probe
District Court finds Jenny Li guilty of perverting the course of justice for urging son Alex Kwong to abscond during murder investigation
The District Court on Tuesday found Jenny Li Sui-heung guilty of perverting the course of justice for urging Alex Kwong Kong-chi to abscond, despite knowing that he was wanted by police for a 2015 theft case involving HK$6.3 million (US$807,700) in gold and jewellery.
The court also ruled that Li, who turns 66 next month, had misled the theft investigation and asked Choi’s mother to remain silent if interviewed by detectives.
On the night of February 21, Choi’s mother, Cheung Yin-fa, went to Cheung Sha Wan Police Station with her son-in-law, Chris Tam, to file a report concerning the model’s disappearance.
The trial heard that Kwong, 30, became enraged by Cheung’s act, cursing at her through the phone as he hurriedly left his flat at the Kadooria housing complex in Ho Man Tin with a bulky bag of belongings shortly after midnight.
