Duo jailed for 6 months for helping Abby Choi’s ex-husband in Hong Kong escape bid
Court earlier found Lam Shun and Irene Pun guilty of agreeing to arrange boat to Macau for person named ‘Alex’ to evade criminal sanctions

Kowloon City Court handed down the sentences to Lam Shun, 44, and Irene Pun Hau-yin, 31, on Friday for a count of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Magistrate Philip Chan Chee-fai said the pair must have realised that “Alex”, the person who was seeking a boat to Macau, had committed an offence so serious that it left him desperately looking for illegal means to leave Hong Kong in February 2023.
Chan said the defendants were persistent in their attempt to hinder the police investigation, but acknowledged there was insufficient evidence to show they knew the suspect was Choi’s former partner, Alex Kwong Kong-chi, or that he was wanted by the force on suspicion of murder.
The magistrate also noted the accused had not earned any monetary gain from the offence and that Alex was eventually arrested.
“Imprisonment is the only appropriate option,” Chan said, brushing aside Pun’s counsel’s plea for a non-custodial sentence.
