A former teacher has been jailed for nearly two years over unlawful sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl he taught at a secondary school in Hong Kong.

The District Court on Monday sentenced the 41-year-old man to 22 months behind bars after he pleaded guilty to a count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 16 and another of indecent assault for the crimes committed in the summer of 2023.

The defendant, a father of one who was identified in court only by his initials LWS, developed a romantic relationship with the girl a few months after she became a student at the Christian school in September 2022.

On an unspecified day in June 2023, the teacher with 14 years of experience had sex with the girl after school inside a toilet at a shopping centre near So Uk Estate in Cheung Sha Wan.

The girl, now 16, said the teacher knew in advance she was underage at the time, adding she was “merely complying” with his request.

On another day the following month, the man took the girl to the same toilet where he molested her for about five to 10 minutes.

The defendant became the girl’s religious studies teacher when she was in Form Two during the 2023-24 school year.
