A pigeon has been found with its wings and tail feathers cut in eastern Kowloon, marking the second such case of bird abuse reported in Hong Kong in less than a week.

A Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) spokesman said on Monday that a resident had contacted the non-profit organisation the evening before after spotting the bird on Farm Road in To Kwa Wan.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the pigeon’s tail and wing feathers showed signs of having been deliberately cut,” he said.

Police said it had received a report at 7.14pm on Sunday that a pigeon had been found with its wings injured.

The force has listed the case as suspected animal abuse. The bird was placed in the care of the SPCA.

The force’s Kowloon City district crime squad is investigating the case. No arrests have been made as of early afternoon on Monday.
