Police said on Monday that they were taking action to protect the public and increase safety awareness.

“The force will step up enforcement during Christmas to combat illegal racing and illegal modification of vehicles, as well as other traffic violations, to ensure roads are clear of traffic, protect public safety and improve road users’ safety awareness,” police said.

Officers will set up roadblocks and radars, while also deploying unmarked vehicles with speed trackers and automatic number plate recognition systems to combat driving offences over the holiday.

Among the arrestees, aged between 24 and 70, four were involved in illegal street racing, three were suspected of driving with suspended licences, one was driving without a licence and another was engaged in dangerous driving.
