Hong Kong seizes HK$23 million worth of smuggled earphones, skincare goods
Officers find earphones and skincare products concealed in four machines inside shipping container
Hong Kong customs officers have confiscated HK$23 million (US$2.9 million) worth of smuggled earphones and skincare products from an ocean-going vessel destined for Pakistan.
The ship was identified for inspection on Sunday at a Kwai Chung container terminal, the Customs and Excise Department revealed on Friday.
Officers found a large batch of suspected smuggled earphones and skincare products concealed in four machines inside a shipping container.
The container was destined for Pakistan and declared to be carrying machines, air conditioners and electronic parts.
The estimated market value of seized goods was about HK$23 million.
“Through intelligence analysis and risk assessment, customs discovered that criminals intended to use ocean-going vessels to smuggle goods, and thus formulated strategies to combat related activities,” the department said.
