Hong Kong police search for man suspected of shattering KMB bus door in rage
Driver passes bus stop without seeing waiting man, who then chases vehicle to red light 170 metres away in a rage
Hong Kong police are searching for a man in his 30s suspected of shattering the door of a KMB bus in fit of rage, following a dispute with the driver early on Monday.
The incident took place at about 1.13am on a double-decker bus on route No 26, which runs between Tsim Sha Tsui East and Shun Tin in Kwun Tong. The vehicle was travelling along the Kwun Tong-bound side of Gascoigne Road.
As the bus approached the stop near the Labour Tribunal building on Gascoigne Road, the driver, 56, did not notice the man waving to flag down the vehicle and thus did not stop, KMB said. The company noted that the bus was the last of the night on that route.
Police said that after failing to be picked up, the man ran after the bus, which continued for about 170 metres (558 feet) before stopping at a red light near the junction of Gascoigne Road and Jordan Road.
“The man caught up with the bus and demanded the driver open the door for him to get on,” a police spokesman said, adding that the driver opened the door.
“After boarding, [the man] continued to hurl verbal abuse at the driver for failing to pick him up at the bus stop, then demanded to be let off the bus.”
