Hong Kong secondary school teacher arrested on suspicion of assaulting pupil
Teacher tried to mediate in dispute between boy and girl but reportedly became emotional and pushed him
A Hong Kong secondary school teacher has been arrested on suspicion of injuring a boy while trying to mediate a dispute between the teen and a girl.
The incident took place at around 2pm on Wednesday during the sports day for a secondary school at the Tai Po Sports Ground.
The boy, 15, was allegedly poking fun at the Form Four girl pupil and the girl subsequently reported it to a teacher. The teacher tried to mediate but reportedly became emotional and pushed the boy to the ground.
The boy complained to his mother after returning home that day.
After investigation, police arrested a 57-year-old man on Thursday for “assault occasioning actual bodily harm”.
“The force received a report from a woman on September 25 that her 15-year-old son was assaulted at a sports ground by a male teaching staff member of the Tai Po school where he studies,” police said. “The boy’s hand was injured and he went to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital for treatment.”
