Knife-wielding gang ties up 4 tourists in Hong Kong party room, steals HK$110,000
- Police say victims robbed of cash and valuables during four-hour ordeal in Kwun Tong, with one man forced to make online bank transfer
A group of more than 10 knife-wielding assailants stormed a Hong Kong party room and tied up four visitors from mainland China and Taiwan, robbing them and forcing one to transfer HK$110,000 (US$12,830) during a four-hour ordeal on Wednesday morning.
A source familiar with the case said the attackers stole valuables and several hundred dollars of cash from the victims – all men aged 28 to 33.
The insider said a citywide search was still under way as of midday.
The tourists – three from the mainland and one from Taiwan – came to the city for sightseeing and were taken to the party room in the Kwun Tong Industrial Centre by their local friend at around 9pm on Tuesday, according to the source.
He said police were now looking for the friend, 31, in connection with the hold-up.
“While they were hanging out together, more than 10 men [carrying knives and wooden rods] stormed into the room, assaulting them, tying them up, and demanding money and valuables,” the source said.
The source said the gang entered the venue at around 1.30am on Wednesday, with one victim forced to make the online transfer of HK$110,000 to a bank account.
