Van driver arrested after accident in Hong Kong leaves 8 people injured

A van driver was arrested after an accident in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui left eight people injured ahead of a drone show in Victoria Harbour on Saturday.
The van crashed onto a safety island between Salisbury Road and Nathan Road shortly before 7pm, with fumes emerging from the vehicle.
Paramedics treated eight people at the scene, including a female auxiliary police constable and seven passers-by. Five, including the officer, were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
It was understood the driver lost control of his vehicle while driving towards Salisbury Road, crashing into a traffic light and the safety island.
The 41-year-old man passed a breathalyser test, but was arrested for dangerous driving and remained in police custody.
Dangerous driving can lead to three years in prison.
Crowds of people headed to the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade to watch a drone show featuring the popular Japanese manga character Doraemon on Saturday evening.
