Residents, including many elderly people, started to return to their homes in a Hong Kong complex on Sunday after their electricity supply was restored following a water leak, with three shelters earlier opened to accommodate them overnight.
About 2,000 people, including residents in three care homes for the elderly, were left without electricity on Saturday evening after a water leak in I-Feng Mansions in To Kwa Wan prompted the power provider to suspend the supply to its four blocks.
Utility firm CLP Power said the electricity supply in two blocks with about 400 households had been restored at 2.30am on Sunday.
The firm added it would continue to work closely with the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the building’s property management office to arrange a temporary power supply to the remaining households.
Residents in blocks B and D, where power had been restored, gradually returned home with help from police, the Home Affairs Department and care teams.
The freshwater supply was gradually restored before 3am, and repair work on the relevant private flush water pipe was finished half an hour later, the Water Supplies Department said.
