Hong Kong aviation fans have whale of a time as Beluga aircraft makes first visit to city
Airbus aircraft, which is specially designed to transport large-scale aeroplane’s components, causes stir online after making stop in city
The Beluga, which gets its name from an Arctic-dwelling whale, caused a stir among photographers, social media users and even cargo workers at the city’s airport.
The aircraft, which arrived in the city from Bangkok, is specially designed to transport large-scale aeroplane components from Airbus’ manufacturing facilities in the United Kingdom and Germany to the company’s production headquarters in Toulouse, France.
The Airport Authority told the Post that it was the first time a Beluga had landed in Hong Kong.
An Airbus spokeswoman said the plan was delivering two H175 helicopters to Qingdao for mainland China’s Ministry of Transport, marking the first time the aircraft had transported such cargo to the country.
The rare sight also prompted some residents to hire sampan boats to take pictures of the aircraft from the waters near the airport.
