Hong Kong cancels amber rainstorm warning, but wet weather to last until Monday
‘Showers and thunderstorms associated with a broad trough of low pressure are affecting the coast of Guangdong’, Observatory says
Hong Kong cancelled Friday’s second amber rainstorm warning in the afternoon, even as the local forecaster said the wet weather was expected to last until Monday.
The Observatory issued the first amber alert of the day at 10.20am, before upgrading it to red at 11.05am. The signal was then downgraded back to amber at 2.10pm and cancelled nearly an hour later.
“Showers and thunderstorms associated with a broad trough of low pressure are affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea,” the forecaster said earlier.
“Locally, showers this morning brought around 10mm of rainfall to the New Territories West and Lantau Island, and rainfall exceeded 20mm over the southern part of Lantau Island.”
The forecaster previously said that some squally thunderstorms were expected, with intense gusts to reach 80km/h (50mph) or higher.
