Hong Kong faces a damp week ahead as humidity is expected to peak at 95 per cent with the arrival of a seasonal coastal mist from Wednesday, according to the city’s weather forecaster.

The Observatory said on Sunday daytime temperatures would climb to 26 degrees Celsius (79 Fahrenheit) in the middle of the week, with significantly more humid air arriving in the region.

“The dry northeast monsoon now affecting Guangdong will moderate gradually in the next few days. The weather will become humid gradually over the region. It will be warm during the day,” the forecaster said.

According to the nine-day forecast, the city is set to experience a sharp transition from bright, dry conditions to a period of intense humidity as the northeast monsoon weakens and a warmer maritime airstream takes hold.

While the weather on Monday and Tuesday will remain relatively fair, with humidity levels as low as 55 per cent, the weather will take a damp turn from Wednesday onwards.
