Hong Kong cold spell to hit 11-degree low, feel chillier due to higher humidity
Observatory also says mercury will drop to about 16 degrees in urban areas on Tuesday evening as part of second cold spell to hit this year
Temperatures in Hong Kong are expected to drop to a low of 11 degrees Celsius (51.8 Fahrenheit) on Thursday under the influence of an intense winter monsoon, but the weather will feel colder than recorded levels due to rising humidity across the city.
The Hong Kong Observatory said on Tuesday that temperatures would drop noticeably in the evening, with the mercury in urban areas expected to fall to about 16 degrees.
The cold spell is the second to hit Hong Kong this year.
Temperatures will reach as low as 12 degrees on Wednesday and 11 degrees the next day, before the minimum mercury reading climbs back to 12 degrees on Friday and then 14 degrees on Saturday. It will be a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories.
The forecaster predicted a low of 6 degrees in Ta Kwu Ling, northern Hong Kong, at 7am on Wednesday.
Unlike the cold spell earlier this month, the weather will feel even cooler in the coming days due to higher humidity, according to acting senior scientific officer Lee Fung-ying of the Observatory.
