Temperatures in Hong Kong will drop to as low as 14 degrees Celsius (57.2 Fahrenheit) over the Christmas holiday due to an approaching northeasterly monsoon, according to the Observatory.
The forecaster said on Wednesday that the “replenishment of the northeast monsoon” would reach the coast of southern China between Wednesday night and Christmas morning.
“The weather will be cloudier over the region with temperatures falling progressively during the Christmas holiday. It will be rather cool in the morning and cold over inland areas,” it said.
The minimum temperature on Christmas Day will be 15 degrees as winds from the north strengthen before going as low as 14 degrees on Boxing Day, with predominantly cloudy skies and some sunny intervals.
“The dry monsoon will bring generally fine weather to Guangdong during the weekend to early next week. The temperature difference between day and night will be relatively large over inland areas,” the Observatory said.
Temperatures are expected to rise gradually from Sunday, with the weather likely to shift to sunny and dry conditions.
The mercury is predicted to hover between 18 and 22 degrees on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. It will mainly be cloudy with sunny intervals.
