A two-year-old Macau girl has died after suffering a serious head injury in a suspected gas explosion in Taiwan last month, bringing the number of fatalities to five.

The blast also killed the girl’s grandfather and grandmother, while her parents, great-grandmother and uncle were injured.

The Health Bureau of Macau said on Thursday that the girl, surnamed Tang, died on Friday last week at Conde de Sao Januario Hospital.

She had been in a coma as a result of her injuries from the explosion that ripped through a department store in Taichung.

“After obtaining consent from the family, we are now officially announcing that the local girl who was injured in the gas explosion incident in Taichung has passed away,” the bureau said.

It also expressed its sadness over the death and sent heartfelt condolences to her grieving relatives, who had received psychological support and counselling.
