Cyberport’s “smart spaces” draw overwhelming response

Cyberport in Pok Fu Lam has received large numbers of applications to rent small offices and co-working facilities, commonly called smart spaces, since Chief Executive Leung Chun-yung proposed in his policy address to increase such spaces at Cyberport by 50 per centin a bid to boost the development of tech start-ups in the city. Terence Leung Tak-ming, a manager of Cyberport Youth Team, said the response had been so overwhelming primarily because of low rents. A desk, for instance, is rented out for only HK$800 a month, while an office goes for just HK$4,000 at most.

NGO tenants face rent increase as new landlord takes over

Some of the charities and non-profit organisations at Kwong Tin Shopping Centre in Kwong Tin Estate, Lam Tin, which the Link Management sold to a company called Yau Man Investment last year, are seeking help from the Housing Authority after being required by the new landlord to pay a management fee equivalent to 80 per cent of the monthly rent. They enjoyed a discounted rent under the former landlord. The authority said it would discuss the matter with Yau Man.
