Children’s tickets will no longer be available as part of the Hong Kong Sevens public ballot, the organisation announced on Friday morning.
A Hong Kong Rugby Union spokesman said they’d made the decision to allow for more public access to the games, to be held on the weekend of April 8-10 next year.
The official ballot opened on Friday and will offer 9,000 fans a chance to attend the popular annual event, with the price standing at HK$300 for the Friday and HK$750 for either Saturday or Sunday.
The spokesman said the Hong Kong Sevens was still a family-friendly event and children would be able to attend the game.
“Kids are still welcome, but they’ll have to come on an adult ticket,” he said.
He said the decision had been made as a result of overcrowding at Hong Kong Stadium in Causeway Bay.
“We’re one of the many sports bodies in the community that are eagerly waiting for the new stadium,” he said.
“[But] because we have too much demand and not enough seats, we’re trying to find every way we can to increase seats.”
Apart from the decision to remove children’s tickets, the spokesman said the rest of the ballot would proceed as usual.
“It’ll just be the luck of the ballot at the end of the day,” he said.
