Between 10am and 11am Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Lantau Island and parts of the New Territories recorded rainfall of up to 20mm, according to the Observatory.
The Observatory said squally showers were expected to affect the city for the coming couple of days. "We expect the showers will be decreasing only in the latter part of the week," the Observatory's senior scientific officer Lee Tsz-cheung said.
At 11pm yesterday, Kujira was estimated to be about 530km southwest of Hong Kong. The typhoon signal remained in place.
The storm weakened last night as it made landfall on Hainan Island . It was expected to enter the Beibu Gulf before making landfall again near Zhanjiang , southwestern Guangdong, within 24 hours.
