It was that time of the year again for more than 100 AIA staff to do their bit for the community as they gathered at the Happy Valley Racecourse for the company’s annual charity run as part of Operation Santa Claus, the yearly fundraiser jointly organised by the South China Morning Post and RTHK.

This was the fifth year that the insurance firm mobilised employees to run for a cause, and the AIA Christmas Challenge was off to another strong start at the sound of the horn.

Wat Hong-lit, one of the organisers, explained that each lap was about 1.4km, and runners had signed up for a total of 480 laps.

“The whole event is very meaningful,” said Wat, who did 10 laps. “A bit hectic for me because I’m the organiser, but seeing everyone enjoying [themselves] and raising funds for those in need, I think it’s very meaningful.”

First-time participant and AIA chief financial officer Garth Jones embraced the chance to hit the track with his staff, as he had always wanted to join in but was unable to before because of business commitments.
