About 20 people were injured – four seriously – in an explosion at a Chinese restaurant in Ma On Shan around noon on Wednesday.
The blast triggered a fire and created air currents that caused glass windows facing the street to shatter onto the road and pavement.
The explosion occurred in a second-floor restaurant at Chevalier Garden’s commercial centre shortly after 12pm.
Most of the injured suffered burns and scratches caused by broken glass. Some were taken to hospital for treatment.
Firemen put out the flames around 1pm.
A restaurant worker said she heard explosions shortly after maintenance workers were conducting a check to the restaurant’s air conditioning system.
