Russian academy breaks up with China’s top naval institute chief scientist under probe
Chinese headquarters of Russian Academy of Engineering says it is taking note of case against Guo Wei, who is accused of ‘faked’ credentials

Guo Wei, the chief scientist of China’s top naval institute, has been suspended as a foreign academician to the Russian Academy of Engineering after he became the subject of a police probe over alleged academic misconduct.
The Beijing News reported on Sunday that Guo’s status as a foreign academician had been temporarily suspended following a review of materials he had submitted as part of the election process.
Citing the academy, the state-owned daily said that information about Guo, who was the chief scientist at the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, had been temporarily removed from the academy’s official website and that the results of the review would be released in due course.
The South China Morning Post was not able to reach the academy’s Moscow office by phone.
Guo became subject to online scrutiny after allegations emerged that his impressive academic credentials might have been faked. Unconfirmed reports suggest his highest level of academic achievement is a high school certificate.
