China’s position on the Ukraine war has been “rational”, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has told his British counterpart, adding that Beijing is willing to work with parties, such as Europe, to play a “constructive role” as others, including the US, seek to resolve the conflict.
In talks with David Lammy at the 10th UK-China Strategic Dialogue in London on Thursday, Wang said developments in the Ukraine war “have validated the rationality and constructive nature of China’s stance”.
“China welcomes all efforts aimed at promoting peace talks and supports the establishment of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework to ultimately achieve lasting peace and stability in Europe,” he said, according to a Chinese statement.
“China is willing to work together with all parties, including the European side, to continue to play a constructive role in this regard.”
Western nations, including Britain, have aired growing concerns over China’s position on the Ukraine war and its support for Russia. Beijing has not condemned Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.
