The prospect of a Xi-Biden summit may be high but it is unlikely to lead to any reversal in the decline in ties between Washington and Beijing, according to Chinese analysts.

US President Joe Biden signalled on Friday that a one-on-one meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping was possible next month when leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum gather in San Francisco.
“There has been no such meeting set up, but it is a possibility,” Biden said, commenting on the possibility for the first time since Xi skipped the Group of 20 summit in India last month.
Beijing has yet to confirm whether Xi will go to Apec but there are signs that efforts are under way to enable it to happen.
Last month Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing was “communicating with all parties” on the issue and a decision would be announced “in due course”.

He said China expected the United States to demonstrate “openness, fairness, inclusivity and responsibility to create better conditions for a successful summit”.
