Canadian influencer Vivian Hsieh has accused Malaysian rapper Namewee of “not being forthcoming” following the death of her friend, Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh.
According to Sin Chew Daily, Namewee – whose real name is Wee Meng Chee – and Iris had been working on filming a video together and were discussing matters in a hotel room.
Iris later went to the bathroom to take a shower alone, but allegedly did not come out after half an hour, prompting Namewee to check on her.
The 42-year-old then discovered her body and subsequently called the police.

On Instagram, Vivian Hsieh expressed regret over her past collaborations with Namewee, writing in Chinese: “I’m ashamed to have worked with you.”
She said that she had messaged Namewee on October 27 to ask about Iris after the latter failed to return to Taiwan as scheduled on October 24 and couldn’t be reached by anyone.
However, Namewee didn’t reply to the message, according to Vivian.
“You played dead and didn’t respond. You are definitely not being forthcoming. All these years, I thought you were a good person, but I was wrong,” she wrote.

The rapper’s silence came amid a separate legal crisis. He was charged in court under two separate provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 on October 24.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Fadil Marsus confirmed the charges, stating the first charge, under Section 39A(1) of the Act, was for “possession of drugs”.
He said Wee pleaded not guilty to that charge and was granted bail of RM4,000 (US$950) with one local surety.
The police chief also noted the rapper faced a second charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, which was “for drug use after testing positive for the substances”.
Wee pleaded not guilty to the second charge as well and was granted another RM4,000 bail with a local surety.

The case has been scheduled for mention on December 18.
On November 2, Namewee issued a statement denying the “unsubstantiated news reports” linking him to Iris’s death, saying he had recently been a target of blackmail.
“Believe it or not, the truth will come out when the police report is released, which should take another two or three months,” he wrote, according to Sin Chew Daily.
