The mother of the teenager who was stabbed to death at a Bandar Utama school in Malaysia’s Selangor state summoned up the courage to speak out in a heart-wrenching post.
Describing her 16-year-old daughter as very sweet, kind and disciplined, the mother took to social media to express her despair.
“She was a beautiful child, but yet met with something so cruel … I am speechless and heartbroken,” she wrote in her post on Wednesday.
“I hope she rests well in the other world, and her soul finds peace and happiness. Mum will always love and miss you.”
The mother also uploaded an announcement on her social media account about the wake for her daughter, Yap Shing Xuen.
Meanwhile, in Shah Alam, Selangor police chief Commissioner Shazeli Kahar said the 14-year-old suspect who fatally stabbed the girl had harboured strong emotions for the victim, although the two were in different classes.
However, he had never expressed his feelings and kept them to himself.
Both were from the transition stream and he was in Form One while the girl was in Form Three.
“The victim was unaware of the suspect’s feelings and there was no prior interaction between the two,” Shazeli told reporters at the state police headquarters on Wednesday.
He said the suspect could have been driven by his emotional impulses and social media to commit the crime.
“He had no prior disciplinary cases at the school,” Shazeli said.
He also said the boy was not suffering from any mental health issues.
“However, we will send him for psychiatric evaluation once investigations are completed,” he said, adding that the boy also tested negative for drugs.
On the weapons seized, he said the three sharp weapons – a kerambit (curved knife) and two knives – were bought online.
“The suspect’s family said they did not know about the purchase [of the weapons].
“We are still investigating to ascertain which online platform was used and how long he owned the weapons.”
While both weapons were seized, Shazeli confirmed that only one knife was used in the murder.
“The postmortem [examination] revealed that the wounds were inflicted using a knife,” he added.
He also confirmed that the bags of students attending school were not checked before they entered the compound.
