Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Saturday that Malaysia had not received any information regarding allegations that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, commonly referred to as Jho Low, was living in China.
Anwar mentioned that he was planning to investigate the situation involving the central figure of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) financial scandal in collaboration with Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
“I have no information; we have yet to receive anything. Let me check. I’ve read [the media reports]. I need to verify with the home minister,” he told reporters on Saturday.
His comments came in response to various reports suggesting that Jho Low, sought by international officials, is believed to be living in an upscale district of Shanghai, allegedly using a forged Australian passport.

In a livestream titled Finding Jho Low, investigative journalists Bradley Hope and Tom Wright claimed Low was living in Green Hills, an ultra-exclusive neighbourhood in Shanghai.
Citing evidence from multiple sources and newly obtained documents, they alleged Low was using a forged Australian passport under the Greek name Constantinos Achilles Veis.
The claim was also highlighted in a report by Variety.
Hope and Wright, who played key roles in uncovering the multibillion-dollar 1MDB financial scandal, said their investigation had continued with fresh leads despite Low’s prolonged absence.
An Interpol Red Notice against Low was issued in 2018. He is wanted in both Malaysia and the United States for allegedly masterminding the misappropriation of US$4.5 billion from the state fund.


Authorities in Malaysia have made repeated attempts to locate him.
Last year, then-inspector-general of police Razarudin Husain said there were still no concrete leads on his whereabouts.
Anwar had earlier acknowledged ongoing efforts to trace Low, including coordinating with enforcement agencies, as a priority when he took office.
However, he also noted that the authorities were unable to confirm whether Low was in China. Low has been on the run for several years, and his location has been a major part of the puzzle in the ongoing global investigation into the 1MDB scandal.
