But this did not stop one excited opposition staff member from trying to snap a selfie with the Tottenham Hotspur star, sparking outrage online.
As Son broke down on the pitch after the final whistle, Ghana players and coaches tried to console him in a touching show of sportsmanship, including assistant coaches Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and George Boateng.
Then, in a video clip that has been making the rounds on social media, one member of Ghana’s team puts his arm around Son and pats his shoulder – before whipping out his phone and angling his face for the camera.
Boateng quickly notices and tells the staff member off while Son turns away.
