Huawei’s new European health lab is making significant strides towards improving people’s fitness
- The company’s wearable fitness devices are rigorously tested at a state-of-the-art facility in Helsinki
- Finland was chosen for its love of sport and academic institutions specialising in sports science

Ready for your New Year’s resolutions? As 2024 approaches, it is likely the promises you have made to yourself relate to better health and fitness.
A 2023 study undertaken by telecommunications giant Huawei confirms this. It questioned more than 8,000 participants in eight European countries, revealing that 92 per cent of respondents wished to improve an aspect of their life relating to health and well-being. Just 50 per cent said they were satisfied with their physical fitness.
Huawei, one of the world’s leading makers of fitness wearables, conducted the study in conjunction with market research and public opinion firm Ipsos. The “Huawei European Health Survey 2023” sought to uncover European citizens’ attitudes and awareness about their own health, to determine smartwatch awareness and use across the region, and to identify whether smartwatch use has any impact on health awareness and behaviour.
In October this year, Huawei opened the Huawei Health Lab in Helsinki, Finland – the company’s third such facility.

With an area of almost 1,000 square metres (11,000 sq ft), the lab tests Huawei’s wearable sports and fitness algorithms in real-life situations, with athletes wearing the devices while using a range of state-of-the-art fitness equipment designed for more than 20 sports. The Finnish lab joins the ranks of two other Huawei Health Labs that are located in China: one in Xi’an, Shaanxi province; the other in Songshan Lake in Guangdong.
