Hold your horses (or horsepower), because Parmigiani Fleurier and Bugatti have just unveiled their newest watch, the Bugatti Type 390 – and only 20 pieces are available.



The watch, unveiled today at Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim, France, is the latest collaboration timepiece from Parmigiani and Bugatti’s partnership, which began in 2004.


The design codes for the Bugatti 390 are directly inspired by the Bugatti Chiron, the newest car from Bugatti that boasts 1,500hp and a top speed of 420km/h. Sleek and superfast, the supercar just broke the world record for the 0-400-0 km/h at just 42 seconds, earning the title of “the world’s most powerful and fastest car”.

The watch is no less impressive. “From the beginning, we knew that we [Parmigiani Fleurier and Bugatti] shared the same vision in terms of innovation, reliability and ethics,” says Michel Parmigiani, president of Parmigiani Fleurier.
“Inspired by the philosophy underpinning the development of the Bugatti Chiron, the Bugatti Type 390 and its extraordinary mechanical movement represent a new chapter in this dynamic relationship.”
The Bugatti Type 390 is driven by the Calibre PF390, a new cylindrical movement which boasts a flying tourbillon. A distinctive feature of the calibre is a patented triangular barrel coupling system, which uses what the brand calls “the world’s smallest ever ball bearing”.

The patented Calibre PF390 comes with an 80-hour power reserve. It was custom-made for this specific timepiece, and comes with an interesting twist that is evocative of a car engine. Simply put, the calibre can be removed from the watch, much like how an engine can be removed from a car, when updates are wanted.

On the aesthetics side, the shape of the timepiece is also inspired by the Bugatti Chiron. Unlike the recently unveiled Bugatti 390 Concept watch, which features a very angular design, the Bugatti Type 390 is all about curves.
“Like all Bugatti supersport cars, Parmigiani Fluerier watches are designed in pursuit of excellence and the ultimate performance,” says Wolfgang Dürheimer, president of Bugatti Automobiles.
“A horological interpretation of our Bugatti Chiron, the Bugatti Type 390, with its extraordinary engine block and unique exterior, [is a] product of identical ambitions.”
The Bugatti Type 390 is available in either white gold or rose gold, with each version limited to just 10 pieces.
Other interesting features include a worm screw is the key to transmitting the power from the calibre’s tubular structure to the dial. The case is also an articulated case, offering 12 degrees of mobility. Offering the timepiece another touch of luxury is Hermes alligator straps.
