Italian-born designer Alessandra Rich established her eponymous label in 2010. Since then, she has built a loyal following thanks to her feminine frocks loved by women who want to look pretty but not too precious. Her designs have appeared on red carpets around the world, worn by everyone from Kate Middleton to Natalie Portman. Here, the designer, who is based in Milan and London, shares her favourite finds in the British capital and beyond.

I’m obsessed with Alfred Hitchcock’s films and the “Hitchcock blondes”, from Grace Kelly to Ingrid Bergman. Icy, sophisticated, passionate, never out of place – the women in Hitchcock’s movies are so cool and sexy. I never get tired of looking at them as inspiration for my idea of femininity. Look at Grace Kelly in [1955’s] To Catch a Thief, in lovely pale pink and glacial blue, with diamonds glittering at her neck. Wonderful!
Insta inspo
I don’t really follow contemporary fashion on Instagram. I prefer fashion archive accounts, or interiors. There’s a richness and a slight imperfection that feels much more inspiring than something overly polished. Occasionally, I find myself drawn to something completely different, like @yalecleaners. It’s a dry cleaning account that specialises in vintage wedding dresses. There’s something very satisfying in the process of it – the beginning, the transformation, the end. I find it relaxes me!
Beauty boosts
I don’t believe in only using expensive products: some of the best things are very simple. I always come back to Avène Cicalfate for the skin, and Homeoplasmine [by Boiron] for the lips. For a skin glow, I use Weleda Skin Food. Other products I love are Restorative Hydration Cream and Recovery Night Complex, both by Calecim. Decorté AQ Meliority Radiance Repair Foaming Face Wash is my indulgence – it’s expensive but you need just a drop. For a very subtle fragrance, I use the Byredo Suede hand cream like a body lotion.
