As the CEO and creative director of Pellicano Hotels Group, Marie-Louise Sciò leads three of Italy’s most beloved luxury properties: Il Pellicano in Tuscany, La Posta Vecchia near Rome and Mezzatorre on the island of Ischia. Based in Rome and educated in the US, Sciò is one of the chicest women around and is also the founder of Issimo, an online platform about Italy’s hidden gems. Here she shares her favourite finds from her home country and beyond.
What I’m watching, reading and listening to

I love Schitt’s Creek. I find it absolutely brilliant – funny, smart and incredibly well written. For podcasts, I really enjoy The Ezra Klein Show and anything by Mel Robbins. In terms of reading, I’m always drawn to The New Yorker, which I find consistently thoughtful and inspiring.
My Instagram inspiration

I tend to follow a lot of design-focused accounts, as I find them endlessly inspiring. Two accounts I particularly enjoy are The London Economic and Alex Eagle.
My go-to beauty products

I have a few favourite brands: Seed to Skin Tuscany, Irene Forte Skincare, Lávika and Augustinus Bader. Three of these are Italian lines founded by women, and I find them exceptional in terms of quality and philosophy.
Places I love in Rome

Some of my favourite places in Rome include: Da Enzo al 29, a classic trattoria in Trastevere known for its authentic Roman cuisine; Atelier Bomba, a beautiful shop with a distinctive aesthetic and carefully curated pieces; Giuliva Heritage, their pieces reflect a timeless and elegant approach to Italian style; and L’Archivio di Monserrato, a beautiful boutique on Via di Monserrato with a refined, curated selection.
My favourite souvenirs

It’s always food-related. I love bringing Parmigiano Reggiano, or the wonderful Alpe Pragas jams from northern Italy – they’re absolutely delicious.
My favourite bling

My favourite watch is the Cartier that my son gave me, which makes it incredibly special. I also treasure the rings my boyfriend gave me, including one from Bibi van der Velden.
Where I love to stay

Three places I particularly love are La Colombe d’Or in Saint-Paul de Vence, France; Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn on the Pacific Coast Highway near Monterey in California; and Claridge’s in London. All three have very strong identities and an incredible sense of atmosphere.
What’s on my travel bucket list

I would love to go horse riding in Mongolia with my friend Elen. It feels like such an extraordinary adventure and a completely different landscape and culture to experience.
My style icon

Katharine Hepburn. I absolutely love her style – timeless, independent, and effortlessly elegant.
Projects I’m proud of

My approach to hospitality is based on respect and individuality. I strongly believe in hotels that have a distinct personality and voice, rather than places that feel standardised or interchangeable. Hotel Il Pellicano, La Posta Vecchia and Mezzatorre are special because each one has its own soul and character.
