Cillian Murphy’s son Aran is his father’s mini-me. The 19-year-old, who will appear in the upcoming HBO Max series Youth, walked the red carpet at the show’s premiere in London on September 11 and the internet can’t get over how much he resembles his father.
“[At] first sight, I thought it was Cillian Murphy! He’s super cute!” one user commented under an Instagram post that showed Aran speaking to the media at the premiere. “Looks so much like his dad!” another fan wrote.
So who is the Irish actor’s lookalike son Aran? Read on to find out.
He was raised in London

Aran Murphy was born in 2007 to Cillian Murphy and Yvonne McGuinness. He also has an older brother, Malachy, who was born in 2005.
Malachy and Aran were raised in London for much of their childhood, but the family moved to Ireland, where both Murphy and McGuinness hail from, in 2015.
During a 2022 appearance on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Murphy revealed that he and McGuinness moved the family to Dublin because they “wanted their children to be Irish”.
“They were sort of at that age where they were preteens and had very posh English accents, and I wasn’t appreciating that too much. So we decided to come back,” the Oppenheimer star said.
When did Aran Murphy start acting?

While his older brother has chosen to stay out of the spotlight, Aran has been acting since he was young.
Aran was only 11 years old when he landed the titular role of Hamnet in Irish theatre company Dead Centre’s play about William Shakespeare’s only son. The play toured in the US, Europe, Australia and Hong Kong.
He made his on-screen debut with the 2022 sci-fi film Lola and will soon appear in Youth, a show starring Sharon Horgan as a 50-year-old divorcee who juggles her single life while looking after her parents and son.
He is also set to appear in HBO’s television series War, as well as Taika Waititi’s upcoming film Klara and the Sun starring Amy Adams and Jenna Ortega.
Cillian Murphy is a proud father

The Peaky Blinders actor has previously spoken of his two sons, commending them on their confidence and sense of self.
“They seem better adjusted than I was. More sure of themselves,” Murphy told The Guardian in 2016. “I’m happy about that. For me, it was something that took a long time to figure out: that it’s all right to be you, that it’s all right to be an individual.”
He also said on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast that his sons were “good boys”. “This is such a cliché, but I just want them to be happy and confident kids, that’s all. And to know themselves, I think that’s the most important thing. And they’re heading that way; they’re good boys. But I try not to project stuff onto them; it’s impossible not to do it entirely, but let them find their own way.”
