The fifth and final season of Outer Banks just dropped on Netflix, and anticipation among fans is high after the major cliffhanger and character death in Season 4.

The show first aired in 2020 during the early days of the Covid-19 lockdown, and quickly went viral for its coastal aesthetics, the treasure hunt plot and the attractive young cast. After seven years of working together, the series wrap was emotional for the actors.
“All of a sudden, we do that last shot, and then we hear, ‘That’s a wrap on the show,’” Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope Heyward, told People. “And I’m looking around at everybody, and it really starts to set in that this is the last time we’re going to be doing this show forever. It’s a wash of emotions.”
Though Outer Banks is coming to an end, Daviss is among the actors who have new, exciting projects lined up. So, who is the 26-year-old breakout star set to play Snoop Dogg in the rapper’s upcoming biopic? Here’s what we know.
What is Jonathan Daviss’ background?

Jonathan Pierce Daviss was born on February 28, 2000, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was raised in Conroe, Texas, where he attended Conroe High School.
In his secondary school years, Daviss was actively engaged in various extracurricular activities. “I wanted to figure out how to do [acting] at a young age,” Daviss told tmrw Magazine. “But then I played [American] football. And then once you get to varsity football, that kind of cuts into theatre time. And then I was doing debate at the same time, too. And I was doing prose and poetry competitions. I was doing a lot in high school at the same time.”
How did Jonathan Daviss get into acting?

Hailing from a small town, Daviss did not have many opportunities to get into acting. He loved films from a young age, a passion he says he inherited from his father. “I was always enthralled with film and the filmmaking process, to the point where whenever we would go rent DVDs … I would just watch all the bonus features on all the DVDs, try to figure out everything about the process of making movies,” Daviss told The Hollywood Reporter.
Since he had no formal acting classes, Daviss turned to poetry reading to develop his acting skills, reciting seven-minute monologues that he wrote himself. The actor told tmrw Magazine that when his father helped him find an audition for a local commercial on Craigslist, it kick-started his love for acting.
He landed his first acting gig at 12 in Jon Amiel’s Deliverance Creek (2014). “I remember telling my folks at the time that even if I wasn’t getting paid, this is what I would want to do for the rest of my life,” he shared with V Magazine.
Daviss has since been in a number of projects, including Netflix’s Do Revenge (2022), Edge of the World (2018), and Shattered Memories (2018). At this year’s CinemaCon, it was revealed that Daviss had been cast as hip-hop superstar Snoop Dogg in a biopic set for release in August 2027. Daviss has had the unique opportunity of spending time with the rapper in person, allowing him to pick up on his mannerisms and interactions.
He is into the creative arts

Besides acting, Daviss is passionate about different forms of creative expression. He taught himself to play the guitar and has shared videos of his playing on TikTok.
He is an avid reader and has also kept up his pastime of writing from his school days. He told tmrw Magazine that he is currently writing a short film. “I think it’s good for all artists to exercise that part of themselves if they can, you know? I think we all want to tell our own stories. I definitely want to. I’m still writing and reading and doing my own thing,” he said.
