Meet Hayes Warner, the pop singer who makes her acting debut as Debbie in The Shards

Known for her TikTok hit ‘Breadcrumbs’, she stars in the erotic thriller adapted by Ryan Murphy, alongside Kaia Gerber and Evan Rachel Wood
She wrote to Ryan Murphy to get the role

During a recent interview with Perfect magazine, the 27-year-old star revealed that she read the original novel a year before she learned about Murphy’s adaptation. She also told People how she instantly felt a connection with Debbie’s character after reading the book. “I didn’t let it go,” Warner told the magazine. “I read the book, and I immediately related to Debbie.”
In the same interview, Warner said she was “quite obsessive” about getting the role, even writing a letter directly to Murphy to express her feelings about the project. “It took the longest to cast Debbie, and they didn’t know what they wanted. And I went out, and I wrote Ryan a letter. I was like, ‘I am obsessed with your work and this book and this character, and I’ll do anything,’” the actress said.
How did Hayes Warner get into music?

While the role of Debbie in The Shards became Warner’s first professional acting gig, things are different in her music career. She wrote her debut single “Like You’re in Mine” when she was in secondary school, per Amplify Music Magazine. The pop singer first gained recognition in 2023, after her song “Breadcrumbs” went viral on TikTok. Later that year, she remastered the single in collaboration with social media personality Loren Gray.
The real breakthrough, however, happened in 2024, when Warner released her cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl”, featuring rapper Billy B and singer-songwriter Kevin Rudolf.
Today, Warner has over 50,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with singles such as “Predator”, “Dead To Me” and “Oh!” among her breakout releases. Her music is also set to appear in The Shards, according to Disney+.
