If there is one thing the internet will never tire of, it is coming-of-age romances. In recent years, shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty, Heartstopper and Off Campus have kept viewers hooked with their storylines of drama and love.

The next hit show could very well be Sterling Point, directed by Canadian actress and director Megan Park, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on August 5. The show follows teenager Annie Jacobson, who inherits her mysterious grandfather’s island in Canada. The character is played by 24-year-old actress Ella Rubin, and it is her first leading role in a series.

“Ella is one of those rare actors who is so achingly real and nuanced in what she brings to her characters and performances, it’s impossible not to feel something while watching her,” Park told W Magazine last week. “I know she’ll be one of the biggest movie stars in the world one day. I can’t wait to watch her career explode.”

So, who exactly is Ella Rubin? Here is what we know.

Ella Rubin was born on September 2, 2001, in New York City. She grew up on the Upper West Side and attended the Professional Children’s School, where she studied theatre and performing arts. She started acting at age 11, playing Marisa Tomei’s daughter in The Rewrite (2014). Years later, she made her Broadway debut in The Rose Tattoo, where she played Tomei’s daughter again.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rubin said she was not a very successful child actor, but that she cherished the experience. “Child acting can be really complex,” the actress said. “It did give me a great gift as a child. I felt like a real person in the world and validated in so many ways.”

Her most notable work includes Anora, where she played the roommate of Mikey Madison’s Ani, and The Idea of You which featured her as Izzy, the daughter of Anne Hathaway’s character. She also had roles in Netflix’s The Chair, Hulu’s The Girl from Plainville and the Gossip Girl reboot.
