Ryan Michelle Bathé was born in July 1976, to her actor-singer mother Clare Bathé, who was the lead vocalist of American funk disco group Machine. Clare has performed alongside legends like Patti LaBelle and was invited to perform at the White House inaugural balls for Presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr.

Bathé said in an interview with The Atlanta Voice that performing had always been an option for her because she grew up on stages and backstage.
