“In its essence, Bridgerton has a very Shakespearean sensibility,” Thompson told The New York Times, describing Benedict’s meet-cute with Sophie at his mother Violet’s masquerade ball as “very Shakespeare”. Shedding light on his character, the 37-year-old actor added, “Benedict’s plight is like a lot of people’s plight nowadays, which is that you do have to make a choice.”
What was his childhood like?
Thompson was born on July 4, 1988, in Southampton, UK, where he spent two years before his family moved to France, according to The Telegraph. He grew up near Paris with British parents; his father worked as an engineer and his mother was a teacher. He is reportedly one of three children.
“The main thing I remember from being a child is that I liked to make things up, I liked to lie, and I liked pretending to be other people. I still get that. The liar’s buzz,” he told The Telegraph.
Thompson started playing the piano when he was six, per The New York Times.
