As Amazon Prime Video’s beloved coming-of-age series The Summer I Turned Pretty gears up for its highly anticipated finale, 26-year-old actor Tanner Zagarino continues to win over fans with his dynamic portrayal of Redbird, amassing over 420,000 followers on Instagram at the time of writing.
Redbird is an openly queer college student and free-spirited fraternity brother to Jeremiah Fisher (played by Gavin Casalegno). On screen, Zagarino infuses his character with offbeat energy and sharp comedic timing.

Redbird enjoys hacky sack and playing video games and, as Jeremiah’s close friend, constantly encourages him to never forget the kid within. In an Instagram video, Zagarino reflected on their on-screen bond, saying, “I came into your life when we went to college and joined the fraternity together. Redbird brings a lot more fun to Jeremiah, and just like, ‘Dude, be a kid! Let’s let loose. Let’s not think so much. Let’s get a little weird.’”
Amid the drama of the show’s intense love triangle, Redbird provides some much-needed humour and levity. Here’s everything to know about the actor bringing Redbird to life.
What else has Tanner Zagarino starred in?

Before his notable role on The Summer I Turned Pretty, Zagarino appeared in several TV shows and films including 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Price We Pay, Pool Boy Nightmare, Aftermath, The Real Bros of Simi Valley: The Movie, and the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking. In Shrinking, he plays Dylan, a character introduced in season two as the love interest of Alice, portrayed by Lukita Maxwell.
In 2020, Zagarino also wrote and starred in the short film Vinny Mancuso’s Rules for Good Business, showcasing his talents beyond acting.
He excels at wrestling

When Zagarino attended Mattituck High School in New York, he excelled as an all-county wrestler. He continued his wrestling career at the University of Pittsburgh and won the New York State wrestling tournament in 2017.
Growing up, Zagarino had two role models to look up to when it came to acting and sports: his parents, Elizabeth Giordano and Frank Zagarino, who were models and actors when they were young and later became fitness trainers. Giordano starred in The Revenger in 1990, while Frank was the lead in Shattered Lies in 2002.
He’s also a model

Zagarino first grabbed attention as a social media influencer in 2013, attracting a large following on Instagram.
The same year, he appeared in Alli Simpson’s music video for “Notice Me”, which invited even more attention. Over the next two years, Zagarino established himself as an Instagram model; by 2015, he was earning upwards of US$15,000 per month and landing collaborations with brands like Old Navy and Aeropostale.
He initially signed with a modelling agency in 2013, but ended the contract. Eventually he signed with Wilhelmina Models and began working with agent Kyle Santillo of KM Creative. He is currently collaborating with the clothing brand Valley Mentality, which celebrates the culture of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley.
He’s dating a model too

Zagarino is in a relationship with Marissa Long, a Los Angeles-based model signed to Eye Model Management and Next Management. The couple went public with their relationship on Instagram around Zagarino’s birthday in October 2021.
Most recently, Long accompanied Zagarino to the New York City premiere of the final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. She shared photos of the event on Instagram, praising his humility, hard work and helpfulness, writing, “A talented handsome goof – who shows up where he goes prepared and full of gratitude for whatever is there for him that day.”
Zagarino frequently shares his affection for Long on social media too, marking special occasions like her birthday and Valentine’s Day with heartfelt posts. In February 2022, he posted a series of affectionate photos celebrating Valentine’s Day and wrote, “I f***in’ scored!! I love this gal oh so much!! Coolest, sweetest, funniest, most thoughtful person I know and I thank God every day that you’re in my life. Love you lots my Valentine. You make me a better man.”
