Isabel Rose Machado, a 27-year-old actress and the long-time girlfriend of The Summer I Turned Pretty star Christopher Briney, recently sparked a lively fashion debate after their appearance at the 2025 US Open.
Machado wore a low-cut denim Ralph Lauren maxi dress paired with brown sandals and a yellow purse, while Briney complemented her with white linen pants, a vest, blue tie and striped jacket.

Their outfits prompted mixed reactions online. Influencer and Make America Hot Again creator Raquel Debono called the yellow bag “ugly” and said the sandals were a “grandma shoe”, per Daily Mail. She also criticised Briney’s choice to carry a black “man purse”, saying “Conrad Fisher would never,” referring to Briney’s character on TSITP.
However, other fans praised the duo, hailing them as the “hottest couple” at the event and applauding their style and chemistry.
As her boyfriend’s No 1 supporter, Machado often accompanies Briney to glamorous premieres and fashion events. Here’s everything you need to know about her.
Who is Isabel Machado?

Machado was born in Chicago and later moved to New York City to attend Pace University. She graduated with a BFA in acting for film, TV, voice-overs and commercials in 2020.
In 2021, she collaborated with her boyfriend on the short film Reasons to be Pretty, which was released on YouTube. She has also appeared in the film Akron in 2015, and in theatre productions including Anne of Green Gables, The Art of Peaking Too Soon and If We Were Birds.
Beyond acting, Machado is a trained first soprano. She showcased her singing talents when she played Tammy in a production of Hairspray in Hudson Valley, New York. She also plays the piano and was trained in ballet, jazz and modern dance.
She and Christopher Briney have been dating for four years

Machado and Briney’s romance seems to have officially begun in 2021. In June 2022, Briney celebrated their anniversary with an Instagram post saying, “A whole year!? I could never want anything else.”
This February, Briney took to Instagram again to wish his girlfriend happy birthday: “My dear Isabel turns 27 today. Thank you for always walking by my side, you make me the luckiest boy in the world.”
The couple first met as students at Pace University in New York City. During their college years, they were close friends – and even roommates. In a 2023 interview, Briney told People, “We were friends first. We went to college together and we lived together. We knew that we could do it (be in a relationship).”
Machado made his first appearance on Briney’s Instagram in a group Halloween costume all the way back in 2018.
They support each other

In July 2023, when the couple attended Tag Heuer’s flagship boutique opening in New York City, Briney told People that, “When my girlfriend tells me I’m pretty, I feel pretty.”
Machado also offers Briney fashion advice before big events. At the Women’s Wear Daily Honors in October 2023, Briney said, “The biggest thing [Isabel has told me] is just wear something that you think is cool. Not something that you think someone else thinks is cool. It’s hard to do that, easier said than done.”

In June 2022, Machado and Briney made their red carpet debut as a couple at the premiere of The Summer I Turned Pretty. A year later, when they attended the premiere of Mean Girls (2024) – in which Briney plays Aaron Samuels – the actor told Access Hollywood, “I couldn’t do it without her. I couldn’t do anything without her. I don’t think I could wake up without her. I’d forget how to breathe.”

More recently, they attended a Prada cocktail party in New York City this February. Later, Machado shared a photo of them seemingly kissing. The picture was snapped at the event and featured in The New York Times; Machado captioned her repost, “Love in the Sunday paper.”
Reflecting on their relationship, Machado told People in July 2023, “We support each other in anything. It doesn’t matter … if it’s a hell yes, it’s a hell yes, and if [one of us] is going to do [something, the other] is going to support.”
