Tom Everett Scott has appeared as Fisher family patriarch Adam Fisher on The Summer I Turned Pretty since its first season. But this year, in the Amazon Prime Video hit series’ third and final season, his character takes centre stage during a tense family dinner that brings some major revelations.
Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) announce their engagement at a memorial dinner for Susannah Fisher – Adam’s late wife – and the climatic fallout following the revelation highlights the series’ complex dynamics between parents and children.

Adam, Jeremiah’s father, reacts with shock, worry and anger, especially since he initially believes that a pregnancy might be fuelling Belly and Jeremiah’s surprising engagement. The dinner descends into chaos and showcases the different parenting styles and expectations between Adam and Laurel, Belly’s mum, played by Jackie Chung.
But who is Tom Everett Scott, the actor who plays Jeremiah’s father – and who is set to join the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel series Elle as the titular character’s father? Here’s everything you need to know.
He found his passion for acting at university

Born in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Scott is the son of Cynthia Ann Pierce, an insurance sales representative, and William Joseph Scott, a civil engineer. In high school, he took part in several theatrical performances and worked at the Rhode Island Renaissance Fair.
However, Scott initially enrolled as a communications major at Syracuse University. He discovered his love for acting during his second year and switched his major to drama.
He rose to fame in the Tom Hanks film, That Thing You Do!

After graduating from university, Scott moved to New York City. He initially worked as a waiter before eventually finding jobs in TV commercials.
Soon, Scott made his television debut in a guest role on the NBC hit legal drama Law & Order. In 1995, he played a recurring role in the highly rated sitcom Grace Under Fire, portraying the son abandoned by the main character played by Brett Butler.
However, Scott’s big break came in 1996 with his portrayal of charismatic drummer Guy Patterson in the feature film That Thing You Do!, directed by and co-starring his childhood idol Tom Hanks. His other film credits include playing David in La La Land alongside Emma Stone, and Andy in 1997 horror classic An American Werewolf in Paris.
Scott has been involved in theatre through aTheatreCo, a company he founded with some university friends. He’s also performed on Broadway, most notably in the Tony-nominated play The Little Dog Laughed.
He has writing and directing credits

Away from the screen, Scott wrote and directed the short comedy film Glock, which won best short film at the Gen Art Film Festival. He also directed a theatre production of River Red, and later produced and starred in an independent film adaptation in 1998.
He’s a father of two

Scott married Jenni Gallagher – who played Denise in the film adaptation of River Red – in December 1997. The couple now live in Los Angeles and share two children.
