From Blackpink concerts together to holidays with Christopher Briney and Isabel Machado, co-stars Mills and Kaufman are close

In the third and final instalment of Amazon Prime Video’s hit romantic drama series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, fans were shocked when Sean Kaufman’s character Steven Conklin, the occasionally immature but otherwise endearing older brother of Isabel “Belly” Conklin (played by Lola Tung), cheats on his girlfriend to start a “no-strings-attached” affair with Belly’s best friend, Taylor Jewel (portrayed by Rain Spencer).

And while the chemistry between Kaufman and Spencer’s characters is undeniable, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Steven act shady. Remember when he kissed Taylor while dating his season one girlfriend, Shayla?

We have yet to see how Kaufman’s character develops as the show, adapted from author Jenny Han’s novel trilogy, pans out. In the meantime, it seems that Kaufman, 25, is busy with a rumoured real-life relationship with Minnie Mills, the 23-year-old actress who played Shayla.

Minnie Mills always wanted to become an actress

Despite double majoring in biomedical neuroscience and behavioural neuroscience in college, Mills had always hoped to become an actress but shelved those dreams, which seemed unachievable, to focus on her education.

It wasn’t until she was stuck at home during the Covid-19 pandemic that Mills began sending out self-tapes to audition for roles and booked The Summer I Turned Pretty, as per an interview she did with Wonderland magazine in 2022.

Before acting, Mills, who has Canadian, American, and Korean roots, modelled for companies like Nike and Tommy Hilfiger.

The part of Shayla was written just for her
