A hit in hallyu and Hollywood alike, chart-topping solo artist, CEO and founder of entertainment agency Rain Company and, most lately, Covid-19-era TikTok dance sensation, Rain has seen it all – as he turns 38 on June 25, STYLE celebrates a true multi-hyphenate talent

Veteran K-pop idol and Hollywood actor Rain is one of the most successful stars to have come out of South Korea. The much-loved hallyu star rose to fame in the early 2000s, and his albums and films have attracted millions of fans in the years since. He even managed to build his own entertainment company along the way.

As he celebrates his 38th birthday on June 25, here’s our favourite facts about this most multitalented idol.

He is a veritable dance king

Ever since Rain created a TikTok account (@rain.xix), he’s participated in dance challenges and uploaded fashion-themed clips. He even showed off his ripped body and divine dance moves, which entertained many fans stuck at home amid the Covid-19 quarantine.

He is private about his family

Besides juggling multiple roles, Rain has managed to build a happy family with his actress wife Kim Tae-hee. In 2017, the couple held a private wedding ceremony and only invited their family and close friends.

They have two daughters, but the couple prefers to keep them out of the public eye.

He has had to deal with a lot of rejection

Before his JYP audition, Rain was rejected from 19 agencies. However, J.Y. Park – founder of JYP Entertainment – was certain that he would become a top star the first time they met. In an episode of Immortal Songs, he recalls, “He had a great height, dance and voice. He thought he couldn't sing, but his voice was so good.”
