Centrepiece of glass-domed 10-storey mall extension to Changi Airport, which features 280 shops and restaurants, is stunning 40-metre high waterfall bounded by lush plants

Singapore’s newly opened Jewel Changi Airport – a mixed-use development at the city state’s Changi Airport – has set a new standard for all airports by taking the retail experience to a whole new level, with over 280 shops and restaurants in the 10-storey mall.

There’s no doubt Changi is going to walk away with another “best airport in the world” title, as the mall seamlessly blends nature and technology, resulting in a highly Instagrammable monolith.

HSBC Rain Vortex

The centrepiece within the sparkling glass dome that encases Jewel Changi, this 40-metre (130-foot) high waterfall is a literal oasis in the middle of the sprawling terminal.

Surrounded by terraced, lush, tropical foliage reminiscent of Gardens by the Bay, rainwater is collected, before being dispersed by the waterfall to water the plants around it.

Boasting one of the largest indoor collections of plants, this is the perfect place to chill out, especially if you’re in transit – Jewel is connected to all the airport terminals – or if you want to take a break from shopping.
