Macau, which has been dubbed “Asia’s Las Vegas” and is designated as one of Unesco’s prestigious “Creative City of Gastronomy”, is known for its extravagant entertainment and scrumptious cuisine.
However, the city is also making great efforts to expand its appeal by staging art, cultural and design events.
Visit these 3 private kitchens in Macau for a gastronomic experience
This year, the city is hosting a series of exhibitions in different venues dotted around the former Portuguese colony.
Check out some of the highlights – including events featuring luxury cars, contemporary Chinese art and Russian fine art – which will be well worth a visit.
3rd Macao Printmaking Triennial

When: until March 17
Staged at several art venues in Macau, the triennial exhibition features 175 printmaking artworks that were selected as prizewinners and finalists in the competition, which attracted more than 1,000 entries from 39 countries and regions around the world.
This year, Polish artist Łukasz Koniuszy’s Habitable Structure was awarded the Gold Prize, with Thai artist Warranutchai Kajaree claiming the Silver Prize for The Remains of the Painful Thing 6 and  The Way of Harvester No. 2, by another Thai artist, Rattana Sudjarit, securing the Bronze Prize.
At Studio City in Macau, ‘Elekron’ brings the post-apocalyptic world to life
First established in 2012 as a platform for promoting printmaking art, the triennial’s artworks can be found o display at Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No 1, Tap Seac Gallery, Temporary Exhibition Gallery of The Municipal Affairs Bureau, and Taipa Houses’ Exhibitions Gallery and Nostalgic House.
Celebrating Life – Ju Ming Living World Sculpture Selling Exhibition 

When: until April 7
Held at MGM Cotai, the exhibition features more than 40 wood and stainless-steel artworks from internationally renowned Taiwanese sculptor Ju Ming’s iconic series, “Living World”, created since 1990s to recent years.
Ju, 81, who first trained as a woodcarver, has combined woodcarving techniques with modernism in his artworks, which have been collected by international museums and private collectors.
The exhibition of Ju’s works – including colourful painted wood sculptures, black-and-white painted wood pieces, wood relief sculptures and stainless-steel creations – is on display in the hotel’s three gallery spaces, Rippling Gallery, Roaming Gallery and Floating Gallery.
Masterpieces of Russian Art from the State Tretyakov Gallery 
When: until April 22
Moscow’s State Tretyakov Gallery, which houses the largest collection of Russian fine art in the world, is a must-visit destination for art lovers.
Now – without having to travel quite that far – you have the chance to appreciate many of these artworks, which are featured in an exhibition at Macao Museum of Art.

A total of 70 of the Russian oil paintings and sculptures from the Moscow museum’s collection – all produced between the late 18th century and mid-20th century – are featured in the exhibition as part of the Macao Museum of Art’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
Highlights, from what is the first display of Russian fine art in the city, include Red Square in Moscow by Fyodor Alekseyev, Portrait of Ilya Yefimovich Repin by Ivan Kramskoi, and The Sunlit Pines by Ivan Shishkin.
‘Ferrari: Under the Skin’

When: until June 16
To celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2017, the Italian luxury sport car manufacturer Ferrari teamed up with London’s Design Museum to create an exhibition featuring cars worth about US$180 million, which reveals the history of the marque.
The “Ferrari: Under the Skin” exhibition, which made its debut two years ago at the Museo Ferrari in Maranello and the Design Museum in London, is making its first appearance in Asia at City of Dreams Macau.
Ferrari turns 70: the makings of the sexiest car in history
The exhibition which is divided into six zones – Enzo Ferrari, The Cars, The Clients, Racing, Design and Engineering, and The Future – features rare “prancing horse” sports cars, such as the 288 GTO, F365 GTB/4 Daytona and F40, as well as the racing cars, F138 and F2005.
It also includes more than 100 artefacts, such as original Ferrari design sketches, early wooden master models, engine parts, original running chassis, racing suits and helmets worn by some of the marque’s legendary racing drivers, including former Formula One racing drivers Michael Schumacher and Gilles Villeneuve.
Oneness: Calligraphy by Professor Jao Tsung-I

When: until September 30
To commemorate the first anniversary of the death of the celebrated sinologist and calligrapher Jao Tsung-I, the Jao Tsung-I Academy Macau has launched a new exhibition, “Oneness: Calligraphy by Professor Jao Tsung-I”.
It showcases 15 sets of calligraphic works by Jao, who died last year aged 100.
He had first practised calligraphy as a youngster and was regarded as one of the greatest humanities scholars in history.
